Japan visa for Vietnamese citizens: requirements and documents
Vietnamese ordinary passport holders need a visa for a short-term stay in Japan (tourism, visiting relatives or friends, business; up to 90 days). Most applications are made through travel agencies designated by the Embassy or Consulates-General of Japan.

Can I use the JAPAN eVISA?
The JAPAN eVISA is available to Vietnamese nationals living in Viet Nam only on package tours run by designated travel agencies (single entry, tourism, 15-day stay). You show the visa issuance notice on your phone at check-in; screenshots and printouts are not accepted. Other trips need a regular visa.
Where to apply
- Through a travel agency designated by the Embassy or Consulate-General (the agency charges its own service fee). Direct applications at the mission are only for special cases, such as spouses and children of Japanese nationals.
- Which office handles your application depends on where you live: the Embassy in Hanoi (Hà Tĩnh and provinces to the north), the Consulate-General in Da Nang (Quảng Trị to Gia Lai), or the Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City (Đắk Lắk and the south).
