Japan visa for Nepalis: requirements and documents
Nepali passport holders need a visa for a short-term stay in Japan (up to 90 days). Applications are made at the Japan Visa Application Centre in Kathmandu, run by VFS Global.

Can I use the JAPAN eVISA?
The JAPAN eVISA is not available to Nepali nationals; apply for a regular visa.
Where to apply
- Japan Visa Application Centre, Kathmandu (VFS Global), which handles appointments, submission and collection.
- Book an appointment so that your travel date is at least 10 days after it.
Documents for tourism
- Visa Application Form (both sides) for each applicant, including children, with one photo (45 × 35 mm, white background, taken within 6 months)
- Passport with at least 1 blank page, plus a copy of the photo page
- Flight reservation and a Schedule of Stay with hotel bookings that match it
- Proof of funds: an original income or tax payment certificate from a public office, and an original bank balance certificate
- A4 copies; no pins or staples
Documents for visiting relatives or friends
Your host in Japan prepares part of these documents.
- Everything listed for tourism
- From Japan: Letter of Invitation, Letter of Guarantee and the inviter’s residence certificate (Juminhyo)
- Proof of relationship: birth or marriage certificate, or family register; for friends, photos, letters or messages
- If the guarantor pays: their tax certificate or bank balance certificate
- English translations of documents not in English or Japanese

- Every item on the visa centre checklist is mandatory; missing items make the application incomplete.
